Villa le Prata Description

Massimo Losappio, chief surgeon at Montalcino Hospital, and his wife Marialuce, a philosophy teacher, purchased the Villa in 1980. Inspired by their passion for wine and the pleasure of sharing the fruits of this generous land with their friends, they planted the first hectare of vineyard near the Villa. Later on, determined to enclose in a single bottle the most authentic atmosphere of Montalcino, two other vineyards were planted in the Castelnuovo dell’Abate area. A fourth vineyard was also purchased near the Villa. These vineyards, in three different zones, are the perfect combination of the elegance, the perfumes conveyed by altitude and the body and structure of the land lying to the south of Montalcino. Villa Le Prata is a very small estate run by members of the family who work with passion exclusively to make fine wines.

Wine Advocate: 93 Points

The Villa le Prata 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is quite lovely in that it takes the heat of the vintage to shape soft and elegantly sweetened fruit. There is no heaviness here, or over-ripeness, but this vintage of Brunello does embrace summer cherry, black plum and candied almond or chestnut. Those lush layers of fruit lift to reveal fresh acidity and tight tannins that could withstand a healthy number of cellar years. Villa le Prata is an estate that is coming to age in terrific fashion.

Vinous: 89 Points

Exotic florals, spices and medicinal cherry make for an extroverted display as the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino unfolds in the glass. This is a silky, round expression, with ripe red and black fruits that find a pleasant contrasting balance through a core of salty, savory minerality. Ashen stone and tart black currants mingle with purple-tinged florals though the structured finale as this tapers off long and harmonious.
