Truchard Vineyards is a small, family-owned winery in the Carneros region of Napa Valley. Proprietors Tony and Jo Ann Truchard have managed a successful vineyard and grown exceptional grapes for nearly 40 years. The estate consists of nearly 400 contiguous acres (of which 280 acres are planted with 12 different grape varietals) in the north-east corner of Carneros on a wide variety of soils types and exposures. Through their hard work and devotion to this unique property, the Truchard family helped pioneer grape growing in the Carneros region of Napa. In 1989, the Truchards established a winery and began producing wines using only their estate-grown fruit. 80% of the vines are sustainably grown, the other 20% are organic; the vineyards and winery are certified Napa Green, the estate is certified Fish Friendly Farming, and they use 100% renewable energy.

Truchard's Cabernet Sauvignon is from 20-42 year-old vines planted in several different sites on steep, southwestern facing hillsides. Deep ruby color with purple highlights, the nose shows luscious aromas of raspberry, plum and cassis with a touch of cedar and vanilla. The palate displays layers of flavor: ripe cherries, red currants and berry jam with a rich mouthfeel balanced by soft tannins that lead into a long, spicy finish with great depth of flavor. Enjoy with grilled strip steak

Truchard Description

Truchard Vineyards is a long-established, family-owned winery in Napa Valley’s Carneros AVA, renowned for producing balanced, terroir-driven wines that reflect the region’s cool-climate influence. Founded in 1974 by Tony and Jo Ann Truchard, the estate spans over 400 acres, with approximately 280 acres under vine, making it one of the largest contiguous vineyard holdings in Carneros. The vineyards benefit from marine breezes, fog, and diverse soils. Their soils include clay, shale, sandstone, and volcanic ash, ideal for cultivating varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah. Today, the second generation of the Truchard family continues a hands-on approach to viticulture and winemaking, focusing on sustainability, estate farming, and wines that emphasize elegance, structure, and sense of place.

The Truchard Cabernet Franc 2023 is a classic Napa Valley Cabernet Franc showcasing the freshness and aromatic complexity of the Carneros AVA. Medium-bodied and expressive, it opens with layered aromas of red cherry, blueberry, cassis, and violet, followed by savory notes of cedar, tobacco, baking spice, and cocoa. On the palate, bright red and dark fruit flavors are framed by silky tannins, balanced acidity, and subtle oak influence, creating a refined, food-friendly profile. The cool coastal climate contributes lift and precision, making this wine an excellent match for grilled meats, lamb, pork, and herb-driven dishes. It’s a polished, approachable example of California Cabernet Franc with both structure and finesse.
