Snowden Description
Since 1955, the Snowdens have farmed their vineyard high above the Napa Valley. In addition to the stunning views of St. Helena, Rutherford and the San Francisco Bay, the estate offers four separate sites producing remarkably complex and individualistic wines. Winemaking duties are in the capable hands of Diana Snowden Seysses. The winery produces Bordeaux blends from their estate vineyards and a small amount of Sauvignon Blanc from a small parcel they call the Lost Vineyard.
Lost Vineyard is a 1.7 acre plot of the estate on the eastern ridge o fthe Vaca Mountains, Napa Valley.
Tasting Note: A gorgeous bouquet which jumps out of the glass. Aromas of pomegranate and black plums invite a sip. The wine is juicy and plush with supple tannins and a clean finish. A lovely, balanced and pure Merlot – expressed as an embodiment of joy and hedonism.
James Suckling: 91 Points
The nose is savory and herbaceous, with aromas of Damson plums, dried herbs and cedar. The palate is full-bodied with fine tannins and bright acidity, showing notes of blackberries, tobacco leaves and marzipan.
Wine Advocate: 90 Points
The bargain-priced 2022 Merlot Lost Vineyard features scents of black tea, black cherries and a hint of almond paste. Aged in 30% new French oak and blended with a splash of Grenache (3%), it’s medium to full-bodied, soft, supple, round and generous. It’s a fun, easy-drinking wine, with soft tannins barely registering on the mocha-tinged finish. No, it’s not a big powerhouse but something rather elegant.
