Roccolo Grassi Description
Established in 1996 by Marco and Francesco Satori, Roccolo Grassi quickly established itself as one of the foremost proponents of quality in Valpolicella and is widely praised for its breathtaking Amarone, Valpolicella, and Soave. Marco is one of Veneto’s most promising young producers, easily competing with neighboring wine legends. When most growers in the region send their grapes to local co-operatives, Roccolo Grassi gives full attention to the small vineyards holding and applying sustainable viticulture practices. The winey is focused on producing wines that are modern in style yet “traditional” in both their flavor and character. Sartori’s bottlings are superbly crafted wines that show remarkable depth, body, and sophistication. Unlike many of his colleagues, Sartori leaves the fruit for his Amarone to dry for a shorter length of time as he believes this approach allows him to achieve better concentration in the vineyard while allowing the wines to remain fresh in the bottle. The Soave and Valpolicella are made from the estate’s younger plants while the oldest vines are used for the Amarone and the Recioto wines which are only made in the very best of vintages.
Roccolo Grassi Amarone is a wine of great structure and softness. Its aim is to feature great balance, finesse, and complexity. Here tannins are very sweet but appreciable with good length and depth. Its color is an intense ruby red; hints of cherry, red berries, plum, spice, tobacco, and herbs are noticeable on the nose. It’s a very fine wine, complex, where the aromas perceived on the nose, and yet again in the mouth, become more defined, intricate, and finer with time. With its great character and personality, this Amarone expresses the distinctive terroir of Roccolo Grassi vineyards, which confer inimitable notes of spices, tobacco, ripe fruit, and herbs.
Tasting Note: A very intense ruby red color; on the nose, it offers aromas of cherry, small red fruits, plum, spice, tobacco, and aromatic herbs. It is a very refined and complex wine, in which the aromas perceived on the nose are then reflected in the mouth and, with age, become increasingly refined, precise, and complex.

The 2019 Amarone della Valpolicella seduces with a darkly alluring blend of violet pastille and autumnal spice, giving way to crushed blueberries and a dusting of cocoa. It displays depths of ripe red berry fruits inflected by nuances of blood orange and mocha, while a core of zesty acidity maintains fantastic balance. Staining and long, it is also gently tannic, leaving a tart citrus tinge that adds a classic bitter bite. The 2019 is harmonious to the core, with a modest 4 grams of residual sugar. Fantastic.
