This is an example of a ‘mineral terroir’ in the eyes of the winemaker. The position of this block is upslope, on the second dome, the highest elevation on the Aegrina site. ‘There’s a great freshness and saline minerality, ocean air, and energy. A good example of minerality and a kinetic sort. There’s a flow of minerality here. Only pump overs, to preserve this wine’s elegance and freshness,’ explains winemaker François Millet. Blood orange and red bramble fruits, rusticity and elegance come together; there’s a cautiousness to observe in that portion of the vineyard. I’m still figuring it out, but I have to be careful with the minerality’s volume,’ Millet explains. The fruit is brilliantly ripe, with a perfect crispness throughout the palate, framed by mineral notes. It shows a mineral complexity, with a saline finish and wisps of hibiscus tea.
Deep, brilliant magenta. Fragrant, spice-accented red berries, candied flowers and exotic spices on the incisive nose. A spine of juicy acidity supports sappy, mineral-tinged raspberry and bitter cherry flavors, which show fine detail and tension. Turns sweeter on an impressively long finish framed by slow-mounting, well-judged tannins. Made from fruit grown in the Wapoto Ridge vineyard.
