Domaine du Nozay Description
This terroir is very rich in shell fossils and has the particularity of whitening as it dries, hence its local name of Terres Blanches “white lands”. Being also sticky and very difficult to access when wet, it is also found under the term “big earth”. This layer is a succession of very irregular thicknesses comprised of marl interspersed with limestone beds. Domaine du Nozay is made from a blend of 3 single vineyards each containing a different soil type from the 3 main soils of Sancerre (Kimmeridgian marls, Caillottes, and Silex).
Tasting Note: A brilliant and intense color with golden reflections distilling elegant and discreet aromas of pink grapefruit, lychee, lemon, and especially of sliced yellow peach. With an ideal acidity carried by an admirably structured body, its refreshing notes of pear in syrup, give it a certain pleasure on the palate.
Wine Spectator: 90 Points
There are hints of beeswax, toasted almond and honey behind the dry profile of dried lemon peel and persimmon. Shows concentration and zesty peach skin bitterness, which adds nice contrast and lends precision. A smoky mineral element stretches out.
Vinous: 88 Points
The 2023 Domaine du Nozay continues to be a rather unconventional Sancerre. Both organic and biodynamic, this philosophy is followed through in the winery, with wild yeasts affecting the fermentation in stainless steel and terracotta amphora. The result is a finely textured, open style with pure stone fruit and florals on the fresh finish. It is harmonious, unadulterated and displays a sense of care.
