Domaine Gérard Mugneret Description
As of the 2018 vintage and with his old vines, great genetic material, and field blends, Pascal felt the name Passetoutgrain was too generic and did not do justice to the wine. He chose to call it Pourpre in reference to its deep purplish hue.
Pourpre = purple. It is a cuvée name not a lieu-dit.
A field blend of approximately 50% each of Pinot Noir and Gamay with vine age from 1971 to 2001. Parcels are located in Rouge Champs (across the road from the southwest corner of Clos Vougeot); Pièce des Paquiers (near Flagey-Echezeaux); Genevrays (near Gilly-lès-Citeaux).
Wine Advocate: 89 Points
Aromas of raspberries, roses and juicy cherries introduce the 2023 Vin de France Pourpre, a medium to full-bodied, rich and creamy wine with a succulent core of fruit and sweet structuring tannins. As readers may remember, it's a rebranded Passetoutgrain uniting Gamay and Pinot Noir.
Burghound: 86-88 Points
A ripe and peppery nose combines notes from both sides of the fruit spectrum. The nicely rich and generously proportioned flavors possess a succulent mid-palate that contrasts somewhat with the mildly warm and rustic finale. To drink young.
Vinous: 85 Points
The 2023 Poupre has an ebullient, simple raspberry sorbet- and cassis-scented nose. The palate is bright, sweet and candied on the entry, with a potent carbonic/Gamay-driven finish. Fine.
