Domaine Anne Gros Description
Estate vines are located in ‘Les Barreaux,’ a villages-level plot up on the slope, at the forest line, 840 feet in altitude. At the mouth of the “combe” of Concoeur, the vineyard faces northeast. Thin soils mix limestone and iron-rich clay, with the “mother rock” not far from the surface.
Tasting Note: Aromas of red currant, cranberries, red/black plum. Tannins are fine-grained and present; flavors of wild strawberries, raspberries, red plum. Tightly wound but lots of material.
Wine Pairing: Aged local French cheese; charcuterie; pork sausages with herbs
Vinous: 90-92 Points
The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Barreaux offers dark berry fruit on the nose, a touch of wild thyme and hints of rosemary. The palate is smooth and caressing, fine tannins, redcurrant and wild strawberry with a dab of black pepper on the finish. One of the more successful wines from the Domaine a treat. Four barrels produced.
Burghound: 88-91 Points
A more deeply pitched, and even spicier nose is comprised by notes of plum, red currant and blueberry. The barely middleweight flavors are on the lighter side (though by no means dilute) while also exuding evident minerality on the balanced, dusty, youthfully austere, more complex and more structured finale.
