Vinous: 95 Points
The 2020 Gewurztraminer Furstentum Grand Cru is made from four parcels of 60-, 45-, 25- and 10-15-year-old vines. The younger vines are a massal selection from a vineyard planted in 1932. The gentlest note of creamy peach plays on the nose, aided by dried lemon peel freshness. The palate has immense texture, juicy acidity, notions of ripe, aromatic peach, with a phenolic edge of apple pip bitterness. The fact that this has 23g/L of residual sugar is surprising since the finish feels just off-dry. Astonishing balance. (Off-dry)
Wine Advocate: 91 Points
Formerly marketed with the addition of "Vieilles Vignes" (old vines) on the label, the 2020 Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Furstentum offers a pure and refreshing mineral nose that exhibits lemon notes intertwined with smoky notes of cold crushed stones. Rich and smooth but tight and very mineral on the palate, this is a powerful, still somewhat bitter and tightly woven Furstentum that will need some time to refine and soften its fine but grippy tannins.
