Boudignon Thibaud Description
Thibaud Boudignon is unquestionably one of the most exciting figures in wine today. Originally from Bordeaux, it was in 2009 that he began to make wine under his own name from a scant 3.5 ha in the heart of Anjou and Savennieres. Knowing that the quality of his fruit was of most importance, he committed himself absolutely to the health of his vines, choosing to farm organically and spend the majority of his time in the vineyards. His devotion paid off quickly, for in just a few vintages, his name began to circulate among Loire growers, eventually to top restaurants in Paris, and finally overseas. The speed at which he has garnered so much praise speaks to the remarkable quality of his wines.
Vinous: 96 Points
The 2021 Franc de Pied is entirely made in wine globes from ungrafted vines within the Clos de la Hutte vineyard. It is harmonious and fine, but there's no mistaking the taut, knife-like serration of reduction that gives definition, direction and drive. It is sinewy and intense, and there's no compromise in its laser-like precision. The finish is a touch salty with a grip of tannin.
Wine Advocate: 95 Points
Vinified 50% in wine globes and 50% in foudres, the 2021 Franc de Pied, crafted from ungrafted vines situated within the Clos de la Butte parcel, reveals a lively, fresh bouquet with aromas of licorice, menthol, spring flowers and lemon oil. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and seamless, it’s incisive and tense with a long, fresh, delicate finish. It is denser and less mineral than the 2021 Clos de la Hutte and has real aging potential.
