Benanti Description
Winemaking in the Benanti family can be traced back to the late 1800s in Viagrande. This deep-rooted passion for wine is what led Giuseppe Benanti to establish the namesake winery in 1988. Located on Mount Etna, “an island within the island” of Sicily, the Benanti family produces wines using 100% native grapes – Carricante, Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio. With vineyards positioned on four different slopes of the Etna volcano: North, East, South-East and South-West, the climatic influence and volcanic soils from each slope combine to create territorial wines with a “sense of place.” After 25 years at the forefront of the winery and greatly contributing to the development and growth of the whole region, Giuseppe passed the torch to his sons in 2012, Antonio and Salvino.
Benanti Rosato is made from a select blend of grapes sourced from vineyards located on the northern, south-eastern, and south-western slopes of Mount Etna. The unique terroir of these volcanic slopes imparts the wine with a vibrant character, marked by crisp acidity and delicate minerality. The wine displays a beautiful balance of fresh red fruit flavors and subtle floral notes, offering a refreshing and elegant expression of Etna’s diverse landscapes. A Rosato that is both vibrant and singular capturing the essence of the mountains.
Tasting Note: The wine showcases intense yet delicate aromatics, with floral notes of broom and fruity hints of blackberry and cherry. It is dry and mineral on the palate, with a pleasant acidity and saline notes. Slightly tannic, it is well-balanced and offers a distinct aromatic persistence of red fruit flavors.
Wine Pairing: Cold cuts, cured meats, fresh cheese, vegetables, white meats, seafood, marinated or cooked fish-based recipes and by the glass occasions.
Vinous: 88 Points
The 2022 Rosato Etna is slightly herbal and woodsy in the glass, displaying underbrush, wet stone and nectarine. It's round and soothing with its brisk acidity and crisp orchard fruits. Rosy inner florals linger
